Have you ever thought about shaving your head? “It’s a good cause and you only live once!” says Emma Morales.
Morales, 20, is a student and e-board member of the Student Programming Board (SPB) at Quinnipiac University. April 11, was her second year in a row shaving her head for St. Baldrick’s.
Morales did this in front of several hundred students during an SPB event via its social media outlets as well as on Zoom. She was accompanied by Zack Iwatsuki, another e-board member, who joined in by shaving his own head.
“Back at home I knew a few people my age who were battling cancer, some made it and some didn’t,” Iwatsuki said. “I know when they lose their hair, they lose a piece of their identity. So I felt like I should do it to tell them that they are not alone in their battle and I am rooting for them.”
After 45 minutes of shaving her head for the second time, Morales discussed why she did it in the first place.
“We all know someone who has unfortunately been impacted by cancer, so it’s just an all-encompassing good cause,” Morales said.
President of SPB, Tyler McNeill, gave his input on the newly virtualized event.
“Given the circumstances of this traditional event, we are pleased with the turnout and the support that our members received as they shaved their heads as the goals is to bring awareness to as many people as possible,” McNeill said.
