Almost a month into the fall 2021 semester, Quinnipiac University appears to have a handle on COVID-19.
“We are testing all students who have (COVID-19 vaccine) exemptions for COVID-19 this semester,” said Dr. David Hill, senior medical advisor for Quinnipiac’s COVID-19 task force. “Close to 95% of our student body was vaccinated. That does leave some students who are not vaccinated and we are testing them on a weekly basis… last week, I think, zero of our unvaccinated population was COVID positive.”
Unvaccinated students who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate for a full 10 days either in limited on-campus rooms in Crescent residence hall or off campus. Vaccinated students are only required to be isolated if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
Quinnipiac is using the same contact tracing tools from the 2020-21 academic year this semester. Unvaccinated students who are contact traced must quarantine for 10 days and test negative prior to the end of the period. Vaccinated students do not have to quarantine, but are required to wear masks within their living spaces and are not allowed to remove their masks in public under any circumstance.
As of Sept. 20, there have been 28 total COVID-19 cases on campus, eight of which are from the week of Sept. 13.
