Women Empowered hosts first-ever bedazzling event

Women Empowered hosted its first-ever “Sips & Clips” night, where students gathered to bedazzle mini hairbrushes, compact mirrors and hair clips while sipping on mocktails.

The event gave students the opportunity to show their creativity and personalize everyday accessories while connecting with other women on campus.

“I’m very interested in beauty, and I thought the bedazzling was like a fun twist to kind of be creative and make it more personalized and make it more mine,” third-year marketing major Maddie Fournier said.

For some students, like second-year nursing major Kelly Loodus, the event served as an introduction to Women Empowered.

“This is my first Women Empowered event, but I’ll definitely be back in the future,” Loodus said.

“Sips & Clips” was inspired by trends circulating online. Women Empowered Treasurer Yazmine Amezzane said she noticed similar events on social media and thought it would translate well to the Quinnipiac community.

“I saw a video online of people doing a similar event, and then also on my Pinterest, I saw a bunch of different bedazzled hair clips and hair brushes. I thought that’d be a really fun event,” Amezzane said. “The event sort of goes with what we usually do with Women Empowered — bring a bunch of women on campus together while also doing a fun activity. And everyone gets to take somebody home with them.”

Aside from the festivities that occurred, the event highlighted a new structure to the organization’s leadership. Women Empowered President Rebecca Huyck said the executive board is emphasizing shared responsibility this semester.

“Going into the spring 2026 semester, we wanted each e-board member to have the opportunity to plan and run their own event as a way to not only boost the creativity of the e-board, but also just to more evenly split the divide of like work that we had for planning,” she said.

With a strong turnout and positive feedback from attendees, “Sips & Clips” was a success. Women Empowered managed to turn a simple craft night into an opportunity for students to express themselves and connect with their peers.
