Trans in America: Trans rights during Trump’s 2nd term

The transgender community has been the subject of many political attacks in recent years. This has become even more true since Donald Trump was elected for a second presidential term in 2024. How have transgender rights been effected since President Trump’s 2nd term? Listen to this 3-part podcast below to find out.

Episode 1: Introduction

In the first episode of this podcast, I describe what it means to be transgender and the issues facing trans folks since the start of President Trump’s term in January. I discuss the executive actions the president has taken since taking the oath of office and how state politics influence the rights of the trans community.

One importance voice in the trans community is Erin Reed, known for her blog “Erin in the Morning”. One recurring story she makes is her “Anti-Trans National Risk Assessment Map”. Since President Trump entered office, Reed’s map was adjusted to reflect a worsening landscape for the safety of trans folks. Her latest map and commentary on transgender legislation can be found here.

Erin Reed’s “Anti-Trans Legislative Risk Assessment” maps have been updated in March to reflect national and local legislation and how it affects the transgender community.
