Hamden Crime Report Week of April 19 to April 26

April 27 News: Shooting at Hamden Park Drive

Hamden Police responded to Hamden Park Drive on the report of a shooting on April 24, 2021. .

Upon arrival, officers found a 29-year-old shooting victim near the canal line at the park. The victim was shot in the lower back.

Hamden police reported that there was a lack of cooperation at the crime scene.

The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.

The police are asking for anyone with information to contact Detective Mark Sheppard of the Hamden Police Department Detective Division at (203) 230-4047.

April 27 News: Burglary in the 1st Degree.

On April 26, around 5:30 p.m. Hamden Police responded to CVS at 2045 Dixwell Ave on the report of suspicious activity.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found extensive damage to the front of the store. After entering the CVS, Khaleb Cyril, 23, of 175 Oberlin Road, Hamden, was found inside “causing a scene.” As officers approached him, Cyril dove to the ground and then punched the accompanying police K-9 three times in the head. 

Hamden police arrested Cyril and charged him with burglary in the first degree, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief in the first degree, cruelty to animals and interfering with a police officer.

Following the incident, the investigation conducted by the Hamden Police Department revealed that Cyril damaged four panels, a door tracking device and two sliding glass doors. The damages totaled at an estimated $5,000.00.

Cyril is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court at a later date.

The Hamden Mayor has not been able to provide the leadership needed to get out front of gun violence and crime in Hamden. Six (6) years of no plan, deflecting, blaming Hartford and it’s all caving in on the residents. Time for change in Hamden Town Hall.
