Incumbent Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett won the Sept. 12 Democratic primary over challenger Walter Morton IV.
Garrett will represent the Democratic Party in the Hamden mayoral election against Republican Crystal Dailey on Nov. 7.
Morton, who held an election night gather at Side Street Bar and Grill on Dickerman Street, told HQNN he was proud of the work his campaign had done and that he was “still very much committed to Hamden.”
A native of Hamden and serves as a member of the school board, Morton said he won six of the nine voting districts.
However, Garrett, who was first elected mayor in 2021, took 56 percent of the votes (2,689-2,096) Tuesday.
“I ran good, clean fight; didn’t go negative,” Morton said. “I just talked about my vision, my ideas planned for Hamden and it was great to see folks in the community, (who) I grew up with come out and support me.”
Garrett posted a statement to Facebook.
“Thank you Hamden Democrats for your vote of confidence for me along with our entire team, to continue our work for another term.”
She also thanked Morton for a “spirited” campaign.
