Upon his arrival he pointed to the bear, which was walking on the grass along the back parking lot,\u201d he said. \u201cThe bear walked by, stepped over the field stone wall and proceeded up Sleeping Giant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Despite seeing what he believed to be a \u201c250 to 300 pound\u201d bear in the wild, Remillard says he wasn\u2019t phased, choosing to admire the the animal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u201cIt was beautiful and did not seem to notice or have any interest in us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>   <iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fhamdenpd%2Fvideos%2F958533767663930%2F&#038;show_text=0&#038;width=267\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">These frequent bear sightings haven\u2019t only been isolated to just Quinnipiac University, however, as according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Connecticut has tallied 7,799 reports of black bear activity across the state within just the last year.<\/p>\n<p data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Hamden currently has 85 reported black bear sightings since September of 2017, and the Hamden Police Department took to its Facebook page advising residents of increased local bear activity.<\/p>\n<p>   <iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"embedly-embed\" src=\"\/\/cdn.embedly.com\/widgets\/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Fe.infogram.com%2F61d98430-9f4e-43db-9d25-4c24589a70af%3Fsrc%3Dembed&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Finfogram.com%2Fpictorial-1h7z2lk1dz9l6ow&amp;image=https%3A%2F%2Finfogram-thumbs-1024.s3.amazonaws.com%2F1110c834-a396-47f8-8158-3e86fff522a7.jpg&amp;key=61d05c9d54e8455ea7a9677c366be814&amp;type=text%2Fhtml&amp;schema=infogram&amp;wmode=opaque\" width=\"940\" height=\"788\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, black bear sightings are becoming increasingly common in Connecticut as the population continues to grow and expand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Wildlife Biologist Paul Rego wasn\u2019t shocked upon hearing about the two bear sightings at Quinnipiac, also noting the yearly rise in population. <\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u201cI was unsurprised because we have a growing bear population that is expanding its range and it wouldn\u2019t be surprising to have a bear in the area.
