National powerhouses like Louisville, USC and Miami reportedly accepted thousands of dollars from adidas to sign certain coveted recruits, which has resulted in a major shakeup in the college basketball world, and more dark corners of the sport figure to be exposed as the investigation rages on.<\/p>\n<p>The national saga also has the potential to hit close to home for students and athletes at Quinnipiac University.<\/p>\n<p>Quinnipiac recently announced a partnership with adidas, and teams began sporting the logo in July. How is the school handling the massive blemish on its new athletic apparel provider? Could the adidas logo next to the cursive Q turn from a badge of honor to a scarlet letter?<\/p>\n<p>According to school officials, the shockwaves of the national scandal don\u2019t reverberate onto Quinnipiac campuses, and there has been no contact from the company since arrests were made.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI haven\u2019t heard anything,\u201d Associate Athletic Director Ken Sweeten said of any contact with Adidas since the scandal hit social media two weeks ago. \u201cThe Athletic Director hasn\u2019t heard anything. I haven\u2019t received any statement from adidas. If we haven\u2019t by now, I don\u2019t think we will.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div\n        class=\"\n          image-block-outer-wrapper\n          layout-caption-below\n          design-layout-inline\n          \n          \n          \n        \"\n        data-test=\"image-block-inline-outer-wrapper\"\n    ><\/p>\n<figure\n            class=\"\n              sqs-block-image-figure\n              intrinsic\n            \"\n            style=\"max-width:2500.0px;\"\n        ><\/p>\n<div\n              \n                style=\"padding-bottom:77.91999816894531%;\"\n              \n              class=\"\n                image-block-wrapper\n                \n          \n        \n                has-aspect-ratio\n              \"\n              data-animation-role=\"image\"\n              \n  data-animation-override\n\n          ><br \/>\n            <noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hqnn.org\/hqpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_7532.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Jenelle Cadigan\" \/><\/noscript><img class=\"thumb-image\" data-src=\"http:\/\/hqnn.org\/hqpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_7532.jpg\" data-image=\"http:\/\/hqnn.org\/hqpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_7532.jpg\" data-image-dimensions=\"2500x1948\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5,0.5\" alt=\"Photo by Jenelle Cadigan\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"59e0bc8118b27d3320f68d20\" data-type=\"image\" \/>\n          <\/div><figcaption class=\"image-caption-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"image-caption\">\n<p>Photo by Jenelle Cadigan<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sweeten\u2019s sentiments are echoed elsewhere on campus, particularly in the Office of Residential Life, where student Resident Assistants (RAs) are now also sporting the adidas logo on their uniforms, although some students have taken to using their name tags as a mask to cover the iconic logo on their chest.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI have not heard any comments or seen any change in attitude from RAs regarding the adidas logo on their staff shirts.\u201d Director of Residential Life Mark DeVilbiss said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Players haven\u2019t noticed any change either, aside from a slight annoyance of having to store away all of their previous non-adidas gear that is now off limits when it comes to any Quinnipiac-related activities.<\/p>\n<p>Quinnipiac is on a much smaller scale than schools like Kansas and Louisville in terms of academic prominence, but even many of those schools like have not heard from the company, or the FBI.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think that\u2019s probably a good thing.\u201d Sweeten said about the silence from the adidas offices.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While there seems to be a lack of concern on campus, men\u2019s basketball head coach Baker Dunleavy acknowledges the magnitude of the situation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s an earth-shattering investigation,\u201d Dunleavy said. \u201cIt\u2019s one of those things that make you focus on yourself even more. You have to make sure your own house is good, and you\u2019re doing things the right way, and compliantly.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>adidas did issue a brief statement shortly after the news broke, saying they were \u201cunaware of any misconduct and will fully cooperate with any authorities.\u201d The lack of conduct with the school is seen as sign of business as usual for Quinnipiac, although it is clear the early stages of the partnership are off to an interesting start.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ryan Chichester The adidas brand can be seen scattered around most college campuses, its three-tiered triangle logo carrying a sense of prideful omnipresence.
