“I feel amazing,” Garrett said.

Garrett won with 2,962 votes, according to the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Office. While Leng got 1,497 votes, Cyr secured 853.

This is the second time Garrett ran for the town’s highest executive office. She lost to Leng in the 2019 primaries. Garrett said Leng and Cyr did “a great job” campaigning and that she is looking forward to working with all of the Democrats in the future.

Leng conceded his victory in a Facebook post late Tuesday night. He congratulated Garrett and thanked his teams and supporters.

The mayor’s outlook for the town was hopeful.

“I’m sure these are things we can all agree are in all of Hamden’s best interest and hopefully things we can advocate for and accomplish together,” Leng said.

Cyr, who ran independently on “Row C,” was positive despite the defeat, touting his emphasis on issues such as tax inequity and the increase in gun violence

“I’m incredibly proud of the campaign we ran. We kept it positive and focused on the issues — I think we raised a lot of good issues for our town,” Cyr said. “Now it’s time to try to unify the party.”

Cyr added that while he has congratulated Garret on her victory, he wasn’t sure what his role would be going forward.

Alongside Garrett, all other party-endorsed candidates won their primaries. Garrett said they will continue working hard to beat the Republicans in the general election on Nov. 2.
