One dead in Hamden apartment fire

UPDATE: Smoke detectors in the building were set off and functional, according to Hamden Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.

One resident died Thursday night after a fire broke out at a Hamden apartment complex on 95 Kaye Vue Drive, per Hamden Fire Chief Gary Merwede.

First responders arrived at approximately 8:40 p.m., and some other residents were “checked for smoke inhalation.”

“The fire was mostly confined to an apartment on the fourth floor,” Merwede said.

Multiple residents who live in the complex and eyewitnesses said that the smoke alarms failed to trigger, but Merwede said it is “way too early” to confirm the claim. One pet was reported dead.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
