Public safety incident leaves officer injured, suspect flees scene

On Oct. 14, an officer was hit by a suspicious vehicle in the North Lot at about 12 p.m., according to an email by Chief of Public Safety Tony Reyes.

The unnamed driver was determined to not be a member of the Quinnipiac community and was using an unregistered vehicle. Once public safety officers called the Hamden Police to the scene and the driver was then asked to turn his vehicle off, instead the suspect shifted his vehicle into gear, striking one of the officers along with hitting a parked vehicle while attempting to drive away. Before Hamden police arrived at the scene, the driver fled at a high speed.

Both the investigators and law enforcement identified the person responsible for these crimes, but no additional details can be provided due to the investigation still being underway. The injured officer did not suffer any significant injuries.

Reyes emphasized to always secure your vehicles and to not leave any items such as laptops, jewelry or money in plain view. Anyone with information is asked to contact Quinnipiac’s Department of Public Safety at 203-582-6200 to report suspicious activity on campus.
